The Thunderbolt Fire Department is a combination career/part time fire department located in Chatham County, Georgia. Department handles all is day-to-day operations from a single firehouse located at 2702 Mechanics Avenue. Department responds to EMS/Fire related incidents and averages 500 emergency calls per year. Thunderbolt Fire is a slow growing, professional, aggressive and proactive department. Our staff is dedicated to providing the highest quality of service to the best of our ability.

Firefighter/EMR

Thunderbolt Fire Department Town of Thunderbolt, GA

Salary Information: $58,000

(Based on Qualifications and Experience: Depending on Certifications, May be Higher)

Responsibilities

• Work Hours: 48 Hour-96 Hour Rotating Shifts
• Applicants selected for hire will perform firefighting, rescue, and emergency medical services

This is accomplished by extinguishing fires, conducting fire and rescue operations, maintain, and inspect fire apparatus and equipment, conducting pre-fire plans, training on firefighting techniques, performing public relations activities, providing life support, and participating in continuing education for state certifications

• Other duties include maintaining grounds and facilities, testing equipment, and performing other duties as assigned
• Provide emergency medical services as a first responder; evaluate and maintain EMS equipment and supplies
• Maintain required certifications
• Perform fire control and rescue operations by entering burning structures, searching for victims and fire sources, extinguishing fires, operating equipment, and apparatus, forcing entry into structures, locating hydrants and other sources of water, and operate hose lines
• Provide highly specialized rescue services such as swift water rescue, hazardous materials response, and technical rescue consistent with services provided by the Town and within certifications and skill set
• Participate in drills, demonstrate consistent and thorough knowledge of specialized areas, and maintain records, logs, and reports
• Maintain equipment and fire facilities by performing daily preventive maintenance, testing fire equipment, checking hydrants, and performing other duties as assigned
• This position is designated critical workforce to emergency operations and will report to work despite or because of an emergency or disaster event

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age before offer of employment – with two years of firefighting experience or equivalent
• Submit to employer’s drug and alcohol testing requirements
• Possess a high school diploma or GED
• Valid driver’s license – Preferred Ga Class E or F Driver’s License or equivalent (must obtain within 90 days of hire)
• Out of state applicants MUST submit a 10-year driving record with their application
• Must obtain Emergency Medical Responder certification and maintain throughout employment and CPR certification (within 90 days of hire)
• IFSAC or Pro-Board Firefighter I (or Ga state equivalent)
• Preferred - IFSAC or Pro-Board Firefighter II (or Ga state equivalent, or will obtain within 1 year of hire)
• Pro-Board or Ga state equivalent Haz-Mat Awareness and Operations
• IFSAC or Pro-Board Firefighter Pumper Operator (or Ga state equivalent, or will obtain within 1 year of hire)
• NIMS: 100, 200, 700, 800 (or obtain within 30 days of hire)
