Job Description

Environmental Services Director

Location: Campbell Hall Rehabilitation Center.

Employment Type: Full-Time.

Position Purpose:

The Environmental Services Director is responsible for planning, organizing, developing, and directing the overall operation of the Maintenance Department in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as facility policies and procedures, under the direction of the Administrator. This role ensures the facility is maintained in a clean, safe, comfortable, and compliant manner for residents, staff, and visitors.

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience in a long-term care facility or similar healthcare environment.

Education Requirements:

  • Post–high school education preferred.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct all maintenance department programs and activities.
  • Coordinate maintenance services with other departments, including nursing, dietary, and administration.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain written maintenance policies, procedures, job descriptions, and performance evaluations.
  • Supervise, schedule, evaluate, counsel, discipline, and, when necessary, terminate maintenance personnel in coordination with the Administrator and Human Resources.
  • Determine staffing needs, assign work schedules, and recommend staffing levels to meet departmental demands.
  • Conduct regular rounds and inspections of the facility, work areas, storage rooms, and equipment to ensure safety, cleanliness, and regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee preventative maintenance programs and ensure timely repair and upkeep of equipment and facility infrastructure.
  • Supervise contracted maintenance services and ensure work is completed in accordance with contracts and work orders.
  • Prepare reports, evaluations, accident/incident documentation, and departmental studies as required.
  • Participate in quality assurance, quality improvement, and survey readiness activities; develop and implement plans of correction following inspections.
  • Maintain and implement disaster preparedness plans and conduct disaster drills.
  • Collaborate with infection control and safety programs to ensure compliance with CDC, OSHA, and universal precaution standards.
  • Serve on facility committees such as Infection Control and Safety and implement committee recommendations.
  • Manage departmental inventory, order supplies and equipment, maintain records, and forecast future departmental needs.
  • Assist in preparing and managing the departmental budget and make adjustments as needed to remain within approved limits.
  • Ensure resident rights, privacy, confidentiality, and property protections are maintained at all times.
  • Address maintenance-related complaints and grievances from residents, families, and staff in a timely manner.
  • Respond effectively to emergencies and unforeseen maintenance issues.
  • Ensure appropriate protective equipment and safety devices are available and utilized properly.
  • Maintain professional competence through continuing education, training, and professional development.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to meet facility and resident needs.

Specific Requirements:

  • Must demonstrate legal eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local long-term care regulations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
